“The Ruby Prince Gardens of Totra” - illustration for Jeffrey Tadlock’s article about the people and places of Totra for issue 8 of Wayfinder magazine. I chose to show the halfling wizard and resident gardener Irvant Williams tending to his duties.

Wayfinder is a great publication by Paizo Fans United and the dedication from everyone involved that goes into making each issue is admirable. You can check out this, and back issues, of Wayfinder here.

“Markessa”

So, Wizards of the Coast are re-releasing the classic Dungeons & Dragons campaign Against the Slavelords. They’re also having a competition for fans to have their artwork included in the publications. I chose Markessa from the second part of the adventure (Secret of the Slavers Stockade) because I love how ghoulish and twisted she is and I always loved the vivid description of her laboratory lair which I hope I’ve done justice to.

I’m a big Greyhawk and old school D&D fan and I’d be over the moon if I managed to get some of my artwork in a Greyhawk publication. So if you have a moment please vote for my submission here !

Either way there are some great pieces of art already submitted

Okay so here is the ink version of the “Elspeth Grey” pencil sketch I posted the other day. I’m not sure how I feel about the lantern glow yet but so far the feedback on my fb page has been favourable which is always good!

(P.S. Just want to repeat the disclaimer on the last sketch that although this character is of my take on a kind of Pathfinder archivist it’s a personal piece and not a Paizo commission!)

“Elspeth Grey” - Pathfinder Archivist (in the field)

This is a personal piece and not a Paizo commission unfortunately! The character is based on one of my favourite film characters, a gold star if you can guess who!

This one is done in pencil but I’ll also be doing an inked version to see which I like the most stylistically but I thought that seeing as I hadn’t posted in a while I should put something on here.

Rather than start the colour on the Rapunzel piece I decided to do the line work for the second part of the commission, this time it’s Sleeping Beauty also featuring the client’s family dog again! I’ve never actually met the two girls the portraits are of, I’ve only seen photos so I’m hoping the drawings actually look like them. Next stage - the colour! Oh and once again, apologies for the image quality, it’s another photo rather than scan.

Okay so I haven’t posted anything in a while for various reasons, one of which is that I’ve been working on a fuller piece. It’s been fun, part one of a commission I’m doing; two portraits of sisters, one as Rapunzel and the other as Sleeping Beauty, both also starring the family dog! Thought I’d post the ink-work that I’ve just finished. Next step is the watercolour. I hate doing colour studies but i think this one will need them and I need to resolve what to do with the open space behind the figures… oh and please excuse the image quality - I don’t have an A3 scanner so I had to take a (apparently wonky) photo of it.

So, I’ve had some pretty harsh critiquing of my work lately, and whilst it stung a bit (okay..a lot) at first it was actually much needed. It’s hard when you put so much of yourself into creating something not to take it personally but when it comes to freelancing if you can’t take it you shouldn’t be doing the job! SO…that means lots of hard work ahead working on a number of areas that need improvement and I have to say, I’m looking forward to the challenge.

“The Council Meeting” (alternatively titled “The Accusal of Olga”)

You’ll see here a number of previous characters from individual sketches as well as from “Harvest Storm (Over the Kamelands)”. The characters are the PCs from the Kingmaker rpg campaign I played in.

Here you can see the Council of Leaders, rulers of the Domain of Thorn conducting business from their capital of Stagshelm. In case you’re interested, from left to right; General Rionna Meorzchten, Grand Marshall Llywelyn Starglow, Grand Magister Olga Vranov, Grand Duke Goldrivven (in foreground), Spymistress Miina Nassauer and High Priestess Yelda Yanich.

Personally, I’m not too keen on this piece but then I guess it’s the artist’s prerogative to be their harshest critic, my fixed palette seemed to get thrown by the wayside!

I was just sorting through some old folders and came across this Star Wars fan-boy offering I did ages ago (there are a lot of shoddily drawn areas on these characters mind you). I’ve been playing lots of Star Wars: The Old Republic lately … not that I need any more distractions from my current projects … but maybe it’s time to do a few new Star Wars fan art pieces!

Hmm - I’m sure I added watercolour to this, if I can find the colour version I’ll add it later
